Abstract

Introduction: Hand washing is a crucial aspect of our daily hygiene regimen for a variety of reasons, including preventing the spread of germs. Our hands make contact with a variety of surfaces during the day, including doorknobs, handles, keyboards, and smartphones. Germs can readily spread from these surfaces to our hands, and then to our mouth, nose, and eyes, increasing the likelihood of infection.

Methodology- The current study was a pre-experimental research design carried out at Narayan World School. The entire sample size of 80 study participants was chosen using purposive non-randomized sampling approaches. The data was collected by a face-to-face demonstration manner utilizing the WHO hand washing checklist. The data was analyzed using descriptive inferential statistics, paired "t" tests, and chi-square tests to establish the pre-test compliance score and selected demographic characteristics related handwashing among school-aged children.

Results- During the pre-test compliance score, the majority of the 80 study participants, 77 (95.1%), had a negative compliance score, while 3 (4.9%) had a positive compliance score for hand washing. Following the implementation of the structure teaching programme, the post-test compliance score for hand washing among schoolchildren was 60 (80%) positive and 20 (20%) negative. The study found a significant relationship between pre-test compliance score and demographic characteristics including age, gender, father occupational status, mother occupational status, father educational status, mother educational status, and family income (p-value < 0.05).

Discussion and conclusion- The study results reveal that the structure instruction programme helps them enhance the schoolchildren's compliance score with hand washing in order to avoid the spread of disease in the population.
